NEWPORT — A 5-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the hospital where she was taken by emergency personnel after they responded to a report of a child who was unresponsive and not breathing in Newport on Wednesday, according to police.

Police and fire personnel from Newport, Claremont and New Hampshire State Police responded to the scene and administered emergency live saving care and transported the girl to Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, where she was subsequently pronounced dead, Newport police said on Thursday afternoon.

A determination into the cause and manner of death is pending further investigation by the state medical examiner office but there is no evidence of physical trauma and all members of the family are full cooperating, police said.
