NEWBURY — Voters approved a $700,000 bond to build a new fire station by a very wide margin Tuesday.
The item passed 144-44 and will make up the cost difference to construct a new $1.2 million fire station on the site of the former station on Chapel Road. The rest of the cost will come from an existing building reserve fund.
In floor voting, residents opted to increase the general fund by $4,000, bringing the total approved fund to $743,000.
Voters approved all other items up for floor vote, including raising $910,000 in taxes for highway purposes.
In an uncontested Selectboard race, Joe Parsons was elected to a term of three years.
