Mt. Ascutney School Board accepting applicants for vacant seat

WINDSOR — The Mt. Ascutney School Board is collecting applications for a new board member to represent Windsor on the two-town board that also includes West Windsor.

The search comes after former board member Amy McMullen stepped down following criticism of her presence at the polls on Town Meeting day in March when she was re-elected.

The board is accepting applications for a one-year term to serve on both the Mt. Ascutney School Board and the Windsor Southeast Supervisory Union Board through noon on Friday, April 14, according to board Chairwoman Elizabeth Burrows.

Applicants, who must be at least 18 and registered voters in Windsor, are asked to submit letters of intent to elizabeth.burrows@wsesu.net before noon on Friday, including full name, town of residence, date of birth, and other materials relating to the applicant’s biography or professional experience. Applicants also are asked to answer the questions: “What do you see as the role of public education?” and “Why do you want to serve on the board?”

Applicants, who can’t be child sex offenders or employed by the supervisory union or a district within it, can expect a response from the board, including an interview date and resources explaining the roles and background of the School District. The board is scheduled to hold interviews on April 17, 18 and 20, and vote on the appointment on the 21.

Voters are expected to elect a School Board member for the remaining two years on the three-year term next March.
