Annual meeting preview: Mountain Views School Distrct to decide $99 million school bond

Article of note: Voters will decide the fate of a $99 million bond to finance the construction of a new union middle/high school, athletic fields and related outbuildings, as well as the demolition of the old middle/high school.

Contested races: School board races in Barnard, Bridgewater, Pomfret and Woodstock are uncontested this year.

Budget and spending articles: The proposed operating budget is $30.4 million, which is estimated to result in education spending of $17,043 per long term weighted equalized pupil. Last year, voters approved an operating budget of $25.84 million.

When, where and how to vote: An informational hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Woodstock Union Middle and High School library. Australian ballot voting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 5. Voting in Barnard is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Barnard Town Hall, 115 North Road. Voting in Bridgewater is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 45 Southgate Loop. Voting in Pomfret is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 5218 Pomfret Road. Voting in Woodstock is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at town hall, 31 the Green.
