North Haverhill, N.H. — Marion L. (Gerue) Balch passed into the arms of her Lord on Friday, June 30, 2017. She was born on May 6, 1918, in Hanover Center, N.H., to Hazel Helen (Hall) Gerue and Arthur Clayton Gerue and spent most of her life in the area except for the years that she and husband, John wintered in Hobe Sound, Fla. On June 26, 1937, Marion married the love of her life, John C. Balch and although he was three years her senior, they shared a birthday. In recent years, John and Marion resided together at the Grafton County Nursing Home until his death in June 2009. Marion was also predeceased by three of her five children; daughter, Janet, infant son, Gordon, and son, Johnny Pat. Twenty-two hours after Marion’s crossing, her eldest son, Ronnie, made his crossing. Survivors include son. Bruce of Orford, N.H.; daughter-in-law, Barbara Balch of Lyme Center, N.H.; sister, Rachel L'Heureux of Moon Township, Pa.; grandsons, David Lacoss (Linda) of Plainfield, Conn., Peter Marsh (Diane) of Lebanon, N.H., Sean Marsh (Annelie) of Grantham, N.H., Mike, Doug (Sherman), Kevin (Michelle), all of Lyme Center; granddaughter Kathy Boudreau (Raymond) of Chelmsford, Mass.; as well as multiple great, great-great-grandchildren, cousins and extended family.

Marion was an LPN and worked many years at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and in private service. She was also an accomplished seamstress. The hats, sweaters, mittens, and quilts that she crafted are cherished by their recipients. She loved birds and could identify many species by their songs and flight patterns. Her bird feeders were always well stocked! Her friends and family will fondly remember her sumptuous baked beans, and trying in vain to wrest the recipe from her, but few succeeded.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at the Grafton County Nursing Home for the kindness and great care they provided to Marion and John Balch over their years there.

At Marion's request, there will be no formal services. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire oversees arrangements.
