Rutland, Vt. — Marion B. Gray, 83, former resident of White River Junction, Vt., died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland.

Marion was born Feb. 22, 1933 in East Burke, Vt., a daughter of Ralph and Hattie E. (Lee) Batchelder. She attended the White School in East Burke and graduated from the Lyndon Institute. She went on to attend Lyndon State School for a year. She was married to Elmer Gray Aug. 30, 1952, in Lyndon Center, Vt. They moved to White River Junction shortly thereafter. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at Shepard Plumbing Supply in White River Junction. She stayed home to raise their children for a time. They moved to Windsor and she went to work for the State of Vermont Department of Employment later traveling with the New Tribes Mission for four years before returning to White River Junction. Upon her return she went to work for Dr. Denk in Hanover for eight years and later for Dr Suftin in Norwich. She then went to work for Brown Furniture for eight years. She worked part time at Cedar Circle Farm Stand before going to work as secretary at Valley Bible Church in White River Junction. She has spent the last ten years in the great care of Rutland Health and Rehab.

Marion was a devoted member of the Valley Bible Church, president of the Christian Women’s Club, past member of the Windsor Grange, together with her husband they cared for several foster children. She enjoyed crafting and selling her goods at craft fairs.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband Elmer Gray.

Marion is survived by six children, Pam Cook and husband, Gordon of Brunswick, Maine, Mike Gray and wife, Sue of White River Junction, Gary Gray and wife, Tammy of Hartford, Debbie Shepard and husband, Kevin of Hartland, Valerie Gray and Roy of North Clarendon, Vt., and Bill Gray and wife, Kim of Sharon, Vt.; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Hartford Cemetery in White River Junction at 1 p.m. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction assisted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at
