Margaret “Peggy” Bruce

South Royalton, Vt. — On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, Peggy was called home by God.

Dec. 19, 1953, Peggy blessed this world to Walter & Esther Bruce. She grew up in Vernon, Vt. on the farm that her parents owned, with her brother and two sisters. Peggy graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in 1971. Peggy attended Spencer School of Business in N.Y. and Trinity College in Vt.

In 1974 she married James Styles and they had two daughters: Samantha and Melanie. James and Peggy later divorced. Peggy never remarried.

From 1979 to 2009, Peggy worked for the USPS as a Rural Route Carrier which she retired from. She loved spoiling her customers. She also moonlighted at J.C. Penney’s briefly Peggy wasn’t one to sit home and do nothing, so she went on to work part-time at RB’s Deli in South Royalton and then to Hannaford’s in West Lebanon. Peggy stopped working completely in November 2017.

Peggy was a member of the Rebekah’s in South Royalton for over 15 years and for the Odd Fellows in South Royalton for a few of those. She was a strong supporter of the organizations and worked hard to keep it alive. She held many positions in the Rebekah’s and from 2015-2016, she was the President of the Rebekah Assembly of Vt. Peggy was also a member of the St. Andrews Society as she had a strong connection to her Scottish Heritage. Peggy attended the Maine and Vt. Highland Games yearly for several years.

Peggy enjoyed sharing things she loved with her daughters. One of them was exploring and traveling. Maine was frequented a lot by them as she felt it was her home away from home. She loved the Ocean.

Peggy is survived by her two daughters: Samantha (Mark Wood) of South Royalton and Melanie of South Portland, Maine and her furry daughter: Cocoa of South Royalton; three grandchildren, Kirstyne, Jason, and Ashleigh of South Royalton; two great-grandsons, Mitchell and Levi; two sisters: Sandy (Dennis Harris) and Mary Boelen; one brother, Doug (Tye) Bruce; all of Vernon, Vt.; two nieces, Heidi and Cajsa; three nephews, Danny, Matt, and Jon; along with their spouses and children. Peggy is also survived by one aunt, Barbara Foss of N.C.; several cousins; and many dear friends. Peggy is predeceased by her parents and her brother-in-law, Frank Boelen.

Calling hours will be held at the Boardway and Cilley Funeral Home, 300 VT RT 110, Chelsea, Vt. on March 23, 2018, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the United Church of South Royalton (Red Door Church) in South Royalton on March 24, 2018 at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Royalton Fire and Rescue Association or Brookhaven Home for Boys in Chelsea, Vt.
