CLAREMONT — A man died after suffering a medical event and crashing into another vehicle in Claremont on Tuesday, according to a police news release.

A 2021 Toyota Tacoma and a 2013 Range Rover collided in the westbound lane of Washington Street near the Imperial Buffet a little after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the release from the Claremont Police Department said.

Police officers determined that the operator of the Toyota Tacoma was suffering from a life-threatening medical condition, so they tried to resuscitate him and he was transported to Valley Regional Hospital, before being pronounced dead.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family, according to the release, which went out after 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

The other passenger in the Toyota and the driver of the Range Rover suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation, including whether speed, impairment, distraction and/or a medical emergency were contributing factors.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Claremont Police Department in the investigation. Those with information about the incident are asked to contact Claremont Police Detective Richard Bell at 603-542-7010.
