MANCHESTER, Vt. — New division, same results.

The White River Valley girls track and field team, last year’s Vermont Division IV state champions, moved up a division this year and defeated the defending Division III champion, Thetford Academy, 174-100. Woodstock finished fourth with 57 points.

The Panther boys defended their title at the state meet with 122 points. Windsor was second (68) and Woodstock fourth (52).

The WRV girls had individual first-place finishes by Cassandra Armstrong (100 and 200 meters), Amara Callum-Flowers (300 meter hurdles, triple jump) and Eleanor Prestridge (shot put). The Wildcats’ 4-by-400 relay team of Pauline Mendau, Ella Perreault, Callum-Flowers, Armstrong finished first as well. Anita Miller finished second in the 800, 1,500 and 3,000. Prestridge was second in the discus, as was Jillian Barry in the long jump and triple jump.

For Thetford, finishing first were Madelyn Durkee (400 meters), Ava Hayden (800, 1,500, 3,000 meters) and Maya Dixon (100 meter hurdles). Durkee was second in the 100 and 200, Dixon second in the 300 hurdles and Jada Rich second in the high jump.

“Both the boys and the girls put together really strong team performances in spite of the intense heat,” Thetford co-head coach Joel Breakstone said. “It was great to see Upper Valley teams sweep the top spots in the team competition. We really benefit from getting to frequently compete against teams like White River Valley and Windsor during the regular season.”

Other first-place finishers were Kemari Wildgoose of Windsor (high jump) and Audri Pettirossi of Windsor (pole vault). Oxbow’s Noell Koslowsky was second in the shot put. Woodstock finished second in the 4-by-400 with Leah Kuhnert, Quinn Stickney, Logan Knox and Isabel Cellini, and second also in the 4-by-800 with Myra McNaughton, Daphne McDermott, Farren Stainton and Lucia Carr.

For the Panther boys, Ulysses Junker-Boyce won the 100 and 200 meters and long jump, and Ben Mattern won the 3,000 meters. Second place for Thetford were Percy (shot put), Finn Linehan (pole vault) and Junker-Boyce (triple jump).

The Windsor boys had first-place finishes by Tydus Percy (javelin, discus), Logan Worrall (shot put) and Travis McAllister (triple jump). Zachary Armstrong of White River Valley won the pole vault. For Woodstock, Zed McNaughton was first in the 1,500 and second in the 800, while teammate Daniel Smith took second in the 400.

Oxbow’s 4-by-800 team of Andrew Barrett, Moses Andrews, Shane Morse and Matthew Corti finished second.

GIRLS LACROSSEHanover 21, John Stark-Hillsboro-Deering 1

HANOVER — The top-seeded Bears were relentless in their NHIAA Division II quarterfinal against the No. 9 seed Generals.

Kali McDonnell led the way with eight goals and two assists, and Maeve Lee added five goals and three assists. Maggie Higgins had two goals and two assists and Lauren Eiler also scored twice. Emily Perras contributed with one goal and one assist, Lexi Feldman tallied once and Nora Bradley scored her first high school varsity goal. Mia Madden and Ashley Cotter each recorded four assists.

The Bears (14-1) will play No. 4 seed Winnacunnet in the semifinals Saturday at Nashua’s Stellos Stadium.

BOYS LACROSSETimberlane 17, Hanover 6

PLAISTOW, N.H. — The No. 14 seed Bears saw their season end in the NHIAA Division II first round at the hands of the No. 3 seed Owls.

Brendan Kwaku led Hanover with four goals, and fellow senior Jack Gardner had one goal and three assists. Mateo Trimble, Noah Gregorio De-Souza and Tanner Longmoore had one assist each. Sophomore goalie Henry Cotter made 19 saves.

Hanover finished the season at 4-11 and will graduate Gardner and Kwaku.

BASEBALLKingswood 12, Lebanon 2

WOLFEBORO, N.H. — The No. 13 seed Raiders were eliminated in the NHIAA Division II first round by the fourth-seeded Knights.

Lebanon finished with a record of 8-9 and will lose seniors Frank Calandrella, Sam Bates, Dawson Bates and Easton Wykes to graduation.

Belmont 9, Stevens 5

BELMONT, N.H. — The No. 9 seed Cardinals fell to the No. 8 seed Red Raiders in the NHIAA Division III first round.

Stevens finished the season at 10-7 and will graduate Matt Becker, Jesse Foote, Ty Theriault, Dom Puksta, Colby Shepard, Luke Smith and John Martinez.
