HOOKSETT, N.H. — Alex Rockmore netted the game-winning goal in the second period as the Hanover High boys hockey team beat Bishop Brady, 5-2, at Tri-Town Arena on Wednesday night for its first victory of the season.

Rockmore and linemates Casey Graham and Curtis Rice did most of the damage for Hanover, scoring all five goals and amassing five assists as a group. Graham and Rice both had two-goal, one-assist efforts, and Rockmore — who broke a 2-2 tie shortly after Brady deadlocked the game — added three assists. Hanover outshot Brady, 58-21, getting 19 saves from netminder Luke Ives.

Tommy Lyons had two assists and Spencer Lawe added one for Hanover, which visits Exeter on Saturday night.

SKI JUMPINGRuth flies for Marauders

HANOVER — Teddy Ruth, the defending New Hampshire high school ski jumping champion, leaped 33 meters on back-to-back tries for a total of 127 points, taking first-place honors and guiding his Hanover High squad to victory at a four-team meet at Oak Hill’s Roger Burt Memorial Jump. 

A senior, Ruth had the longest hop of the night and received scores of 64 and 63 points from the judges. 

His teammates, Cam Forbush and Pierce Hamlin, followed close behind in second and third. Forbush finished with jumps of 30 and 31 meters for a net score of 121.5 points. 

Hamlin, in his first year in the sport, tallied 115 total points thanks to jumps of 28.5 and 31 meters. Rounding out the scoring for the Marauders was Greta Holland, who landed two hops of 15 meters for 78 points. 

Hanover is off until it travels to Proctor Academy for the state meet on Feb. 11.

NORDIC SKIINGHanover, Lebanon split again

MERIDEN — The Hanover boys and Lebanon girls each swept the top three positions to split a three-school race at the Plainfield School.

Noah Phipps, Simon Phipps and Caleb Zuckerman went 1-2-3 in the boys race to set the tone for the Marauders. Noah Phipps won in 16 minutes, 0.9 seconds, with Simon Phipps second (16:27.5) and Zuckerman third (16:51.6). Noah Branchflower’s ninth-place finish (18:06.2) allowed Hanover to nip the host Raiders, who placed 4-5-6-7 behind Seth Carl (17:00.5), Daniel Mladek (17:19.7), Sam Shipman (17:35.0) and John Bieszczad (17:46.8).

Ayla Weale won for the Lebanon girls in 19:02.2, with Zoe Chinn taking second in the high school division (20:17.0). Anna Illsley (fifth, 20:49.9) and Sophie Longacre (eighth, 21:45.2) closed out the victory for the Raiders. Britta Arvold (third, 20:46.2) and Sage Gilbert-Diamond (fourth, 20:47.9) led the Hanover girls.

The schools will meet again on Saturday at Eastman Golf Links.

SWIMMINGLebanon, Kearsarge share honors

LEBANON — The Raiders and Cougars split a dual meet at the CCBA, with the Lebanon boys and Kearsarge girls winning.

Aidan Urnezis won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 breaststroke for the Raider boys, who also got a victory from Angus Hall in the 100 free. Hall added runner-up results in two events, and Nicholas Lamontagne had a pair of top-three finishes as well.

Freshman Adaa Karanwal had a double-win night for the Lebanon girls, taking the 200 free and 100 backstroke. Madilyn Herring, Ellen Wolstenholme and Sarah Cunningham each produced at least one top-three result for Lebanon, which visits Kearsarge on Tuesday.
