Local roundup: Jewell reaches 100 goals for Lebanon girls lacrosse

DOVER, NH. — With 11 goals on the day, Maddie Jewell hit the 100-goal mark for her high school career, but the Lebanon High girls lacrosse team came up short against St. Thomas, 21-16, on Thursday.

Norah Burns, Sara Forman, Abby Ripley, Hadley Rich and Abby Auch each scored once for the Raiders, and Drew Kantor had 13 saves.

“It was by far our most-complete game so far this season,” Lebanon coach Sara Ecker said. “Turnovers were at a minimum, and defense was solid.”

The Raiders (3-7) travel to Gilford on Monday.

Boys Lacrosse ConVal 6, Hanover 5

HANOVER — The Cougars scored twice in the closing three minutes to defeat the Bears, who held a 3-2 halftime lead.

Wyatt Seelig had two goals and an assist and Mateo Trimble had two goals to lead Hanover. Jack Gardner added a goal and assist, and Jack Wilkinson and Sam Bagatell had an assist each. Henry Cotter made 21 saves for Hanover.

“We showed spurts of our best lacrosse of the season and continue to show significant improvement in every outing, yet it wasn’t enough to earn the W today,” Hanover coach Sean Murphy said.

The Bears (4-4) host top-ranked Derryfield (11-1) on Tuesday.

WEST CANAAN — The Royals pounded out nine hits en route to their second win of the year. Zach Thompson got the win, giving up one hit and one run.

Mascoma (2-7) plays Fall Mountain at home on Monday, while Newport (1-8) welcomes Fall Mountain on Friday.

Rivendell 12, West Rutland 2

WEST RUTLAND — The Raptors have won three in a row, outscoring their opponents 35-8 in the process.

Rivendell (4-5) travels to Windsor on Saturday.

Lyndon 9, Thetford 1

THETFORD — The Vikings, ranked second in Vermont Division II, were too much for the Panthers, who fell to 5-4.

JD Farrell scored Thetford’s sole run. Boone Fahey gave up four runs on seven hits over four innings on the mound, and Farrell allowed three runs.

Thetford will travel to Oxbow on Saturday.

Randolph 16, Oxbow 15

RANDOLPH, Vt. — The Olympians came up just short in a slugfest. Oxbow (1-8) hosts Thetford on Saturday.

Softball Hartford 17, Brattleboro 2

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — Logan Evans with two singles, a double and a home run and Faith Brown with three doubles and a single lead the Hurricane hit parade.

Serenitee Martel went the distance in the circle with three strikeouts. Becca Keelty and Marina Grassi had three hits each, Madison Willey had three doubles and Harper Robinson and Madylyn Matheson both singled.

Hartford led 5-0 after four innings, then tacked on seven runs in the fifth with three straight doubles, a walk, single and two more doubles.

The Colonels got a run in the bottom half before Evans hit her two-run home run in the seventh, followed by two more runs.

“The girls came out swinging hard, and Serenitee was consistent in the (circle),” Hartford coach Danielle Terry said. “This season is a huge step up in performance from our previous years, and it’s exciting to see this group become more confident each game.”

Hartford (5-2) visits Otter Valley on Friday.

Hanover 21, Mascoma 5

WEST CANAAN — The Bears left no doubt about this one early on with 13 first-inning runs, highlighted by an Emma Campfield triple.

Jess Lobb led Hanover (1-9) in the circle, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out five over six innings.

Hanover had 11 hits, with Bella Hunt, Campfield, Kit Tullar and Abby Campfield getting multiple hits and every player in the lineup scoring at least once.

The Bears returns to action Monday at Plymouth. Mascoma (0-6) hosts Hillsboro-Deering on Friday.

Lyndon 8, Thetford 3

THETFORD — The Panthers (5-3) had their five-game win streak snapped by the defending VPA Division II champions. Thetford will play undefeated Oxbow on the road Saturday.

White River Valley 13Bellows Falls 12 (8)

SOUTH ROYALTON — Freshman Olivia Tuller’s third RBI on the day drove in the winning run in the eighth inning to give the Wildcats a come from behind win.

Carlie Robinson went the distance in the circle for WRV and knocked in three runs with two hits. Tanner Drury had four hits with two RBIs and scored four runs. Tess Ballou had a triple and scored three runs, and Liyah Fisk Turkvan doubled with two RBIs.

The Wildcats were behind 5-3 after three innings, but scored six in the fourth to go up 9-5. The Terriers (5-3) then scored four in the fifth and three in the seventh to lead 12-9 before WRV tied it with three in the bottom half.

WRV (2-9) welcomes Windsor on Saturday.

Mill River 9, Woodstock 1

CLARENDON, Vt. — The loss dropped the Wasps to 1-4. They are back in action on Tuesday when Bellows Falls pays a visit.

Boys Tennis Lebanon 9, Hollis Brookline 0

MILFORD, N.H. — The top-ranked NHIAA Division II Raiders easily dispatched the Cavaliers, winning all the singles and doubles matches by large margins.

Nolan Arado (8-0), Will Katz (8-1), Kyle Hines (8-0), Finn Ericson (8-0), Baden Schiferdecker (8-2) and Lucas Graham (8-4) were singles winners. Arado and Katz (8-0), Hines and Schifferdecker (8-0), and Ericson and Graham (8-4) were victorious in doubles.

Lebanon (8-1) travels to Kennett on Friday.

Girls Tennis Lebanon 6, Conant 3

LEBANON — With four singles and two doubles victories, the Raiders got revenge from a 5-4 loss earlier in the season to the Orioles.

Lebanon took a 4-2 lead with singles wins by No. 3 Hailey Schibuola (8-5), No. 4 Sophie Longacre (8-2), No. 5 Mari Utell (8-1) and No. 6 Hannah Rich (8-0). Doubles winners were No. 2 Schibuola and Longacre (8-0) and No. 3 Utell and Rich (8-6).

Lebanon (6-5) host Kearsarge on Friday.
