ENOSBURG FALLS, VT — The Oxbow High softball team continued to roll as the top-ranked team in VPA Division III with a 7-0 win over previously unbeaten Enosburg Falls.

Pitcher Anastase Bourgeois shut down the Hornets, allowing just two hits and striking out 13 with no walks in a complete-game shutout.

Bourgeois helped her own cause with three hits, including a first-inning double to drive in Hadlee Allen, giving Oxbow a 1-0 lead. 

The win was secured with a four-run seventh that included RBIs by Lily Lahaye and Maggi Ellsworth.  

Braylee Phelps had three hits and Allen, Makenna Simmons and Faith Eastman one each.

“Very proud of the girls today,” Oxbow coach Chuck Simmons said. “We came out of the gate hitting and it was great. (Bourgeois) was in a groove in the circle today hitting her spots and looked so relaxed and having fun.  It was a great win today.”

Oxbow (6-0) will look to stay perfect at home against U-32 on Tuesday.

LYNDON, Vt. — The Hurricanes (3-1) were limited to just two hits on the day in losing their first game of the season.

The Vikings scored one in the first and one in the third against Zach Johnson, who gave up just four hits and one earned run while striking out eight over six innings. Christian Hathorn and Trenton Bird had Hartford’s hits.

Hartford plays Bellows Falls at home on Tuesday.

SWANTON, Vt. — The undefeated Thunderbirds handed the Olympians their fifth loss. Oxbow (0-5) will look to get their first win at home Tuesday against U-32.

SOUTH ROYALTON — The Wildcats had a balanced offensive effort with six different players getting hits, led by Sonny Snelling with a home run and three RBIs.

Brayden Russ, Zander Clark, Tattin Griffin and Ty Couture all had multiple hits and scored two runs each, and Wyatt Cadwell doubled with a run scored and an RBI.

On the mound, Couture went 3 2/3 innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts and one earned run. Cadwell pitched the last 3 1/3, giving up one earned run with four strikeouts on two hits.

WRV (6-2) hosts Green Mountain on Tuesday, then travels to Woodstock (1-3) for a rematch on Thursday.

LONDONDERRY, N.H. — The Bears poured it on against the NHIAA Division I Lancers and ran their record to 5-0. Hanover has outscored its opponents this year by a combined score of 93-21. Next up is a home date against Merrimack Valley on Wednesday.

CrewHanover opens season

HANOVER — In their first races of the season, the Bears finished second in seven of nine races against Bedford and Andover.

The boys’ first, second and third boats, the girls’ first, second and fourth boats and the girls’ combined 5/6 boats were second in the 1,400 meter upstream race on the Connecticut River. The boys’ fourth boat missed out on first place by about two second behind Bedford. The girls’ first boat was only six seconds behind first-place Andover and the second boat was eight seconds behind Andover.

“We had a great first race and learned a great deal,” Hanover coach Julie Stevenson said. “All our crews have a great deal of speed in them and we are in great shape for the end of April.”

Outdoor Track and FieldHartford boys first,Woodstock girls second at Windsor Invitational

WINDSOR — The Hurricane boys took first place among 11 teams in Saturday’s Windsor Invitational at the Murphy-Morse Track Complex.

The Woodstock girls were second, edging Thetford Academy by 2.16 points.

First-place finishes for the Hartford boys were Ayodele Lowe in the 100 meters and Jordan Davis in the shot put. Ulysses Junker-Boyce of Thetford took first in the 200 meters, and Thetford won the 4-by-100 relay. Thetford’s Finn Linehan was first in the pole vault and Woodstock’s Zed McNaughton won the 1,500 and was second in the 800. Travis McAllister of Windsor won the long jump and was second in the triple jump. Windsor’s Tydus Perry won the javelin.

Hartford was second in the 4-by-100, 4-by-400 and 4-by-800 relays. Gabe Guillette finished second in the 200, Lowe was second in the triple jump and Alan Aldrich second in the shot put, with Davis second in the discus for the Hurricanes. Conner Beland was second in the 300 meter hurdles.

James Underwood of Woodstock was second in the 3,000 meters, and teammate Daniel Smith was second in the 400. Windsor’s Zach Armstrong finished second in the pole vault and teammate Roger Petermann second in the 110 meter hurdles.

On the girls’ side, Cassandra Armstrong of White River Valley won the 100- and 200-meter races and was second in the pole vault, with teammate Imari Taylor winning the shot put. Charlize Brown of Thetford was first in the 400, second in the 200 and second in the javelin, and the Panthers’ Ava Hayden won the 1,500 and took second in the 3,000. Jada Rich was first in the high jump and second in the shot put. Hartford’s Violet Goodwin won the discus and teammate Megan Lang the long jump.

Woodstock had second-place finishes by Isabel Cellini in the 800, Tori McNamara in the 100-meter hurdles and Eryn McGuire in the high jump.

Windsor had second-places finished by Kemari Wildgoose in the 100 meters, Sophia Rockwood in the 400 and Estella Attwood in the discus. White River Valley’s Amara Calhum-Flowers was second in the 3,000.
