WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Joseph Barwood scored five goals and became the Hartford High boys lacrosse program’s all-time leading goal scorer with 150 as the Hurricanes routed Otter Valley, 17-1.

Barwood surpassed Reece Thompson, a 2019 graduate, who still holds the record for the most career points at Hartford.

The Hurricanes got two goals each from Justin Robinson, Bryce Soboleski and Gavin Provost, who scored his first varsity goal. Also getting their first goal were Owen Mock, Tyler Spaulding, Jack Moody and Nolan Morlock. Brayden Trombly and Nick Daniels also tallied for Hartford and Barwood had two assists.

“We played pretty well today, offensively and defensively,” Hartford coach Grant Whiteway said. “We won a lot of loose balls.”

Hartford (4-0) will travel to St. Johnsbury on Wednesday.

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Woodstock fell to 0-2 and will play at South Burlington on Wednesday.

BRADFORD — The Wildcats got seven strong innings from starting pitcher Ty Couture, who also had two hits and scored three runs.

Jacob Benoit and Loren Young had two RBIs each with Benoit scoring a pair of runs. Wyatt Cadwell and Finn Bailey each scored twice with an RBI and Robby McShinsky also scored with an RBI.

On Tuesday, WRV (4-1) welcomes Thetford Academy and Oxbow (0-3) travels to North Country.

WINDSOR — The Yellowjackets dropped to 0-4 and will travel to Bellows Falls on Tuesday.

BRADFORD — The Olympians scored once in the first on an Anastase Bourgeois single, then put the game out of reach with six runs in the second on several walks and singles by Maggi Ellsworth and Abby Peavey.

Oxbow had nine hits, including two each by Bourgeois and Hadlee Allen. In the circle, winning pitcher Brianna Gray struck out 13 and allowed one hit with no walks. 

The Olympians (4-0) are at U-32 on Tuesday, while WRV (0-4) welcomes Thetford also on Tuesday.

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The Hurricanes evened their record at 1-1 on the strength of straight-set wins by their Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles players. Sebastian Fraser, Nikki Tsounakis and Rowan Irvine won their matches.

Hartford will play at home Monday against Mount St. Joseph.

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Wasps opened the season with a win as singles players Hannah Watson, Sophia Nisimblat, Chloe Masillo and Charlotte Nunan and No. 1 doubles team Tess Belisle and Mia Zilian all won in straight sets.

For Hartford, No. 1 singles player Wren Parker won in straight sets, as did the No. 2 doubles pairing of Maggie Pierce and Phoebe Anderson.

“Both teams came ready to play,” Hartford coach Kate Godek said. “Many of the games in each match reached deuce and outcomes were  decided by the next point.”

Hartford (0-2) travels to St. Johnsbury on Wednesday, while Woodstock (1-0) is at Mount Anthony on Tuesday.

Track and FieldMascoma’s Currier, Brewster win at Winnisquam

WINNISQUAM, N.H. — Emily Brewster won the shot put, Gunner Currier the 3,200 meters, and Carter Nadeau, Troy Loynds, Brody Albanese and Currier the 4-by-800 relay in the seven-team meet.  

The Mascoma girls finished third and the boys fourth.

In other results, Currier was second in the 1,600, Logan Gilmore second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100, Connor Cantlin third in the shot pu and Garrett Givagnoli third in the discus. For the girls, Emma Colburn was fourth in the 1,600, Braelyn Stone fourth in the 400, Kamdyn Aldrich fourth in the javelin and Rhiannon Stone third in the long jump.

Hanover registers firsts at Nashua North Invitational

NASHUA, N.H. — At the Nashua North Invitational with 19 schools competing, Hanover had first-place finishes by Ian Solberg in the high jump, Lea Perreard in the mile and Lucien Glesier in the 800 meters.

Aiden Powell was third in the 110-meter hurdles, Liam Kitchel third in the 400, and the team of Aidan Bradley, Joaquin Martin, Powell and Kitchel were fourth in the 4-by-100 relay. For the girls, Poppy Collins was fourth in the 800 and Maria Anderson fourth in the mile. Mia Bagnato, Collins, Anderson and Perreard finished fourth in the 4-by-400 relay, and the team of Katherine Valentino, Heidi Davis, Megan Faris and Natalie Wainwright took third in the 4-by-800 relay.
