Local roundup: Lebanon girls lacrosse rolls to first win
LEBANON — Maddie Jewell scored six times and Hadley Rich added three goals on Monday to lift the Lebanon High girls lacrosse team to its first victory of the season, a 13-2 romp over Plymouth.
Norah Burns, Abigail Rich, Abigail Auch and Lindsey Stark also tallied for the Raiders (1-3), who led, 8-2, at halftime in the first of four games this week. Lebanon, which returned only three players from last season’s 9-6 team, dropped the Bobcats to 0-6.
“The schedule definitely hasn’t played out well for us,” said 28th-year coach Sara Ecker, whose squad played three games during the season’s first week and no games during its second. “We definitely have inexperience, but we also have good athleticism and enthusiasm.”
Newcomers Hadley Rich, Burns and Delaney DeShane have been impact players for the Raiders. DeShane, a longtime soccer player, has shown such promise that Ecker said the senior could have been one of New Hampshire’s best in lacrosse if she’d started playing that sport earlier.
“The things we work on in practice seem to be sticking,” Ecker said. “We could have won two of our first three games, and I think our players have had the realization that if we work a little harder, we can win some of the ones to come.”
KEENE, N.H. — Henry Cotter made 16 saves, but the Bears fell to 3-2.
Mateo Trimble had two goals and Wyatt Seelig a goal and three assists for the visitors, who also received a goal and an assist from Brendan Kwaku and a single goal from Sam Bagatell.
