HOLLIS, N.H. — The unbeaten Hanover High baseball team used timely hitting and stellar relief pitching to earn some revenge in Friday’s 9-6 win at Hollis-Brookline.

This rematch of last season’s NHIAA Division II semifinal clash, won by Hollis-Brookline on its way to the state title, went the Bears’ way when the visitors scored five runs in the fourth inning. That, along with 4 ⅓ innings of strong relief work from Alex Boone and Sam Sacerdote, was enough to help Hanover (6-0) hand the defending champs (7-2) their second loss of the season.

Trailing 4-2 heading into the fourth inning, the bottom of the order sparked a five-run rally for the Bears. Hayden Avard walked, Sean Nam singled and both came around to score on Sam Loescher’s double to tie the score. Jackson McBride followed with a run-scoring single before scoring on a single by Sacerdote. Jack McGrath scored the final run of the frame on a sacrifice fly.

Boone tossed 1 ⅓ innings, allowing a run after getting a key third out to end the third inning. Sacerdote tossed the final three innings, striking out four while walking one and allowing just one run.

Nam and Sacerdote each had two hits. Sacerdote, Loescher and Jojo Drent each had two RBIs.

Hanover hits the road on Saturday to face Bow at 3 p.m.

Stevens dominates rival Newport

The Cardinals took both games of a home-and-home doubleheader against the rival Tigers, taking the afternoon game in Newport 16-0 and the nightcap in Claremont 13-1.

Stevens (4-4) hosts Inter-Lakes on Monday. Newport (1-5) welcomes Conant on the same day.

HOLLIS, N.H. — The Bears (0-6) couldn’t contain the potent Cavaliers.

Sophie Wise and Lily Smith led off the game with back-to-back hits, but were stranded as the hosts retired the next three hitters. Jess Lobb pitched for Hanover and struck out eight.

The Bears visit Bow on Saturday.

Newport takes two from Stevens

The Tigers took the afternoon game   against the rival Cardinals at home, 14-1, then routed Stevens in Claremont, 20-5 in the nightcap.

Newport (5-0) i s back in action Saturday at home against Sunapee. The Cardinals (1-6) host Gilford on Monday.

Girls LacrosseHanover 12, Windham 11

WINDHAM, N.H. — Maeve Lee’s game-winner with five seconds left to play helped Hanover cap a comeback thriller over the Jaguars.

The Bears (7-0) trailed, 9-4, at halftime before starting their rally back. Goalie Charlotte Robinson (14 saves) and the Hanover defense did its part, holding Windham to just two goals in the second half.

Lee’s game-winner came unassisted. She took possession late and the rest of the attack cleared space to allow her a chance to go for the final shot. Lee finished with four goals and an assist.

Kali McDonnell led Hanover with five goals and an assist. Emily Perras added two goals and Maggie Higgins had one. Mia Madden had one assist.

The Bears host Manchester Central on Monday.

Concord Christian 12, Lebanon 3

LEBANON — The Raiders (1-5) fell short in a game much more competitive than the final score would indicate.

Abby Ripley, Maddie Jewell and Delaney DeShane all scored for Lebanon. Goalie Drew Kantor made nine saves.

“The score wasn’t indicative of our effort,” Lebanon coach Sara Ecker said. “The entire team hustled from start to finish and we dominated on ground balls.”

Lebanon hosts Bishop Brady on Saturday.

Boys LacrosseLebanon 17, Stevens 2

LEBANON — Benji Madory, Abe Pearson, Ben Twarog, Otto Bourne, Bode Price, Luke Engert, Miles Saunders, Ben Direnzo and VJ Sites all scored for the Raiders.

Sites added four assists, Madory, Engert and Twarog each had three and Pearson had two. James Barnett made five saves.

Lebanon (3-4) is at Inter-Lakes on Wednesday. The Cardinals (0-5) host Bishop Brady on Monday.

WOODSTOCK — The Wasps fell to 2-4 and will host Mount Mansfield on Wednesday.

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Nolan Arado picked up an 8-0 win at the top singles spot to help set the tone for Lebanon (7-1).

Will Katz (8-5), Kyle Hines (8-4), Finn Ericson (8-4) and Baden Schifferdecker (8-1) all added singles wins. Arado and Katz partnered for an 8-2 win in doubles. Hines and Schifferdecker added an 8-6 win. Ericson and Lucas Graham lost perhaps the match of the day in doubles, 9-7.

Lebanon visits Coe-Brown Northwood on Monday.

Hanover 9, Nashua North 0

HANOVER — Ryder Wilson celebrated his birthday with an 8-6 win at No. 1 singles in his debut playing at the top of the lineup for the Bears (4-1).

Ian Holmes (8-4), Henry Werner (8-3), Alex Orsino (8-1), Trevor Lichtenstein (8-1) and Ming Liu (8-2) also had singles wins.

Sam Ames/Zach Pearson led off doubles play with an 8-4 win. Nick Pais/Holmes (8-1) and Pablo Martin-Asensio/Ray Menkov (8-0) also won in doubles.

Hanover hosts Manchester Central on Monday.

Girls TennisHanover 8, Nashua North 1

NASHUA, N.H. — Mackenzie Liu won the match of the day at No. 2 singles for Hanover, 9-7, in a dominant win at Nashua North.

Sophia Costa and Campbell White each had 8-0 wins in singles. Emilia Torresani (8-2) and Shayna Rockmore (8-3) also won.

Rachel Rockmore/Costa and Liu/White each won 8-5 in doubles. Shayna Rockmore and Hailey Pastel added an 8-0 win.

Hanover hosts Salem on Saturday.

Lebanon edges Bishop Brady, falls to Littleton

LEBANON — The No. 3 doubles team of Hannah Rich and Amalia Mladek delivered an 8-4 victory to give the Raiders a 5-4 win in the first match of the day Friday against Bishop Brady.

Aesha Soni (8-5 at No. 1), Mari Utell (8-5 at No. 5) and Rich (8-2 at No. 6) picked up singles victories for Lebanon. Soni and Adaa Karanwal recorded an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, setting the stage for Rich and Mladek to clinch the match.

Against Littleton, Rich’s 8-5 win at No. 6 singles represented the Raiders’ only point in an 8-1 loss. Hailey Schibuola lost 9-7 at No. 3 singles, and Soni and Karanwal fell in a tiebreak at No. 1 doubles.

Lebanon (4-5) hosts Profile on Tuesday.
