NORWICH — The Hanover High baseball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday, dropping an NHIAA Division II contest to Milford, 11-6, at the Dresden Athletic Fields. The result leaves Division III Monadnock (14-0) as New Hampshire’s lone undefeated team in the sport.

Milford led, 8-2, after two innings and turned a triple play off a line drive to shortstop during the fifth inning. Each team committed four errors.

“Poor pitching and poor defense,” said Hanover coach John Grainger, whose 13-1 team reached last season’s division semifinals. “Hats off to Milford, they played great.”

Ian Smith started on the mound for the hosts, allowing four hits and four runs, all earned, during 2/3 of an inning. The senior struck out one batter and walked one.

Reliever Alex Boone got Hanover out of the opening frame, but not before giving up three hits and an earned run. The freshman was followed by junior Jake Toulmin, who allowed four hits and five runs, only two of them earned. Toulmin also walked two batters and hit one.

Freddy Mierke was next on the bump and lasted 3 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and no runs while striking out four Spartans and walking three.

Hanover received one hit from the top four spots in its batting order. Freshman outfielder Jojo Drent had two singles, and junior infielder Sam Loescher knocked a pair of doubles.

The Bears, who host arch-rival Lebanon (8-6) on Monday at Dartmouth College, left 11 runners in scoring position. Milford is 6-8.

DURHAM, N.H. — The Raiders scored four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to turn this one into a laugher over Oyster River.

“We are starting to put it together,” Lebanon coach Chauncey Wood said. “This is a hard working group. I’m very proud of these boys, this was a big game for us.”

Freshman Ryan Lundrigan was the spark in both the four-run sixth and seventh innings. Lundrigan led off the sixth with a single, one of six hits in the frame that saw Lebanon turn a 2-2 tie into a 6-2 lead. Lundrigan again led off the seventh with a hit to start another four-run barrage. Dawson Bates helped cap the night with a two-run suicide bunt.

Lundrigan, Spencer Cunningham (three RBIs), Zach Aldrich and Bates each had two hits for Lebanon. No. 9 hitter George Tafe singled, walked twice, and scored a run. Nick Brill had a hit, drove in one and scored a pair of runs.
