NORWICH — The Hanover High baseball team scored a pair of runs in the third inning to take a one-run lead and got stellar relief pitching from Jake Toulmin to defeat Lebanon, 4-2.

With the rivals tied 1-1 after an inning, the Raiders took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third before the Bears responded in their half.

Jack McGrath led off the bottom of the third with a double and came home on a single by Sam Sacerdote, who moved to second on the throw home. A dropped third strike to Finn Weare moved Sacerdote to third, and he scored on a groundout to short by Sam Nam, giving Hanover the lead.

On the mound, Sarcedote pitched three innings, giving up two runs on three hits with six strikeouts.

Toulmin threw four innings to get the win with nine strikeouts and only one hit allowed.

McGrath had two hits and two runs scored, and Sacerdote, Sam Loescher and Nam each drove in a run.

Bennett Hewett had two hits, including a double, for Lebanon.

“Very close battle, great game,” Lebanon coach Chauncey Wood said. “We have to hit with runners in scoring position. We have lost a few close games.”

Both teams return to action Monday with Hanover (4-0) at Bow and Lebanon (2-3) hosting Pembroke.

STRATTON, Vt. — The Wasps (1-2) got into the win column, led by Claudia Shoemaker’s had four goals and Isabel Konijnenberg’s three goals and two assists.

Fiona Piconi and Lily Gubbins each had a hat trick, Maeve Roylance had two goals, and Gracie Laperle also tallied. Audrey Emery had eight saves for Woodstock, which travels to Brattleboro on Tuesday.

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes remained undefeated with a dominant win led by Addison Cadwell’s six goals and three assists. Madison Barwood and Audrey Rupp each had four goals and two assists.

Alice Piper added two goals, and Shannon Hadlock and Izzy Sirois each tallied once. Bella Boeri contributed one assist. It was the first varsity points for Sirois and Boeri.

Dakin Kovatch had six saves and Zoe Zanleoni two for Hartford.

“Tonight we put all the pieces together for a complete team win,” Canes coach Heather Hartford said. “The girls really came together after a long week of practice and showed us how to work as one. I am very proud of their effort tonight.”

Hartford (7-0) plays at Colchester on Tuesday.

Boys lacrosse Lebanon 8, Kearsarge 3

LEBANON — Otto Bourne had four goals, Abe Pearson added three and Evan George also scored for the Raiders, who evened their record at 3-3.

Benji Madory had three assists for Lebanon, with Pearson, Bode Price and Miles Saunders getting one each. James Barnett made 16 saves.

“Despite having a goal called back because a foul baseball landed on the crease right before we scored, we had a great win,” Raiders coach Cole Flannery said. “Our offense started to find its footing, and our defense stepped up big time. Once again, James Barnett had a big day in goal.”

Lebanon travels to Plymouth on Monday.

Hanover 7, Kingswood 6

HANOVER — With the teams tied 2-2 after a half, the Bears took leads of 5-3 and 7-4, then hung on after the Knights closed to within one.

John Scherer had three goals for the Bears, and Brendan Kwaku and Jack Gardner added two each. Mateo Trimble recorded two assists, and Wyatt Selig and Jack Wilkinson had one each. Henry Cotter made 14 saves for Hanover.

“We anticipated a tight contest going into the game, and it certainly lived up to the expectation,” Bears coach Sean Murphy said. “I’m proud of the team’s will to compete and find a way to hang in there against a strong push late in a close game.”

Hanover (3-1) is at Keene on Monday.

Boys tennis Hartford 5, Mt. St. Joseph 1

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes evened their record at 2-2 by sweeping the singles matches.

Sebastian Fraser (6-0, 6-0), Nikki Tsounakis (6-1, 6-1), Rowan Irvine (6-4, 6-1) and Jacob Helms (6-3, 6-3) were all victorious. Hartford won with the fifth singles point via a forfeit.

Arlo Philip and Jonah Libens-Mavadones lost their doubles match in a tiebreak. The Canes will host Mount Anthony on Saturday.
