MANCHESTER, Vt. — The White River Valley girls won the VPA Division IV track and field championship on Friday at Knapp Field in convincing fashion with several first-place finishes and a 39-point advantage over second-place Green Mountain.
The Wildcats’ Jillian Barry won the girls long jump and triple jump, where she broke her own Division IV state record of 9.42 meters with a leap 10.26 meters. Anita Miller won the 1,500 and 3,000 meters to go with a second in the 800 and Wynter Simack took claimed the pole vault and second in the javelin.
Also scoring points for White River were Eleanor Prestridge, who was third in the shot put, discus and javelin; Amara Calhum-Flowers, who took second in the 400; and the 4×100 team of Barry, Calhum-Flowers, Simack and Norah Harwood, which was second.
“Overall, we had a really solid performance,” said White River Valley coach Dave Mattern. “Last year we lost to Northfield, and this year we knew we had a good team going into the state meet.”
White River finished with 123 points, followed by Green Mountain at 84.
Sharon Academy’s Gray MaCallister was third in the high jump, and teammate Lily Welch was third in the triple jump. Cosette Meloon, Rachel Horner-Richardson, Alyssa Roberts and Autumn Powell placed fourth in the 4×400 relay for Mid Vermont Christian.
The Sharon boys finished fourth with 79 points and were led by Jaxon Nichols, who finished second in the 100 meters, first in the 200 meters and first in the 100-meter hurdles.
The 4×100 team of Hayden Hewitt, Luke Miller, Riley Eastman and Ever Tofel took second, and Hewitt, Eastman, Daniel Henderson and Caleb Benjamin were first in the 4×400. Andrew North, Jack Brandon, Jack Lloyd and Bryce Rikert were third in the 4×800 for the Phoenix. Miller and Hewitt were second and third in the pole vault, with Zachary Armstrong of White River Valley winning the event.
Abel Goodwin of Mid Vermont Christian was third in the high jump, and Eagles teammate Will Jones was third in the discus.

BURLINGTON — The Hartford boys track team took third place among 15 teams at the VPA Division II state meet.
John Cassell was first in the pole vault and Charlie Rowe was third for the Hurricanes, who also had third-place finishes in discus and javelin by Jordan Davis and third in the long jump by Ayodele Lowe. Gabe Guillette was fourth in the 100 meters and third in the 200.
All three relays teams also scored points. In the 4×100, Guillette, Austin Defelice, Blaine Gour and Ayodele Lowe were second, and Ben Moreno, Guillette, Gavin Farnsworth and Jack Fournier-Stephens were fifth in the 4×400. Moreno, Farnsworth, Fournier-Stephens and Finn Walther were fourth in the 4×800.
The Hartford girls were 10th in their meet. Olivia Chase won the pole vault, was second in the discus and added a third in the triple jump to lead the Canes.

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The undefeated Hurricanes (14-0) head to Wednesday’s semifinals after another dominant win in the VPA Division II quarterfinal contest.
Caroline Hamilton had five goals and three assists, followed by Elliot Rupp (4-3) and Addy Cadwell (3-4). Maddie Barwood added two goals and three assists, Chloe Jenson had two goals and Sophie Howe, Grace Gardner and Beth Dobrich had a goal each. In goal, Sarah Howe had seven saves for Hartford.
The Hurricanes will host Spaulding in a semifinal on Wednesday.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The 15-1 No. 2 Hurricanes moved into the semifinals by overwhelming the Chieftains on Friday night.
The Hurricanes’ Joseph Barwood’s seven goals and two assists gave him 85 points for the year, breaking Hartford’s single-season scoring record. Gordon Willey had four goals; Ryan Spaulding added three with two assists. Aidan Boonyaharn, Ezra Mock, Chris Pierce and Brayden Trombley had a goal each.
Hartford will host Tuesday’s semifinal against No. 3 Harwood.
ENOSBURG FALLS, Vt. — Senior Colin Vielleux pitched the No. 6 seed Hurricanes into the VPA Division II semifinals, surrendering one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and going the distance against the third-seeded Hornets.
Vielleux also drove in two runs with a hi,t and Drew Martin drove in a pair of runs as well with a hit.
Hartford’s Noah Arsenault, Shane Jenks and Joey Beggs each had a hit and an RBI. Hartford scored three runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-2 lead. Enosburg committed nine errors in the game.
Hartford (9-8) will play a Tuesday semifinal against the winner of Saturday’s Lyndon-Springfield quarterfinal.
VERGENNES, Vt. — The Commodores had too much firepower for the 10th-seeded Yellowjackets.
Peyton Richardson had three strikeouts in the circle for Windsor, which got an RBI triple and a double from Meagan Holling. Richardson, Sydney Perry, Karen Kapuscinski, and Piper Vivian also had a hit for Windsor.
Windsor finished at 4-13 and will graduate Richardson, Holling, Kapuscinski, Taryn Belimer, Sarah DeSchamp, and Ember Pikramenos.
WOODSTOCK — The fourth-seeded Wasps were upset by the defending state champion Redhawks.
Jake Singelais earned Woodstock’s only point with a come-from-behind win at fifth singles, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8. Kaelen Lundberg (7-5, 6-2) and Cooper Dorsogna (6-2, 7-5) played close matches in their losses.
Woodstock (9-3) graduates eight seniors from a 10-player roster: Dorsogna, Kip Gaddis, Max Hambsch, Liam Harper, Nixon Malik, Otto Nisimblat, Nate Satterfield and Singelais.
