Local Roundup: Binghamton Goes Long on Big Green

Vestal, n.y. — Binghamton dropped five 3-pointers in the opening quarter and used the cushion it built to beat Dartmouth, 80-64, on Sunday in nonleague women’s basketball action.

The Bearcats (9-4) kept up the barrage through halftime, building a 52-29 at the break with the help of 11 trifectas. Binghamton finished the afternoon shooting better than 50 percent (14-for-26) from beyond the arc.

Olivia Smith came off the bench to top the Big Green scoresheet with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Paula Lenart finished with 10 points. Imani Watkins had 24 points to lead the Bearcats.

The Big Green (8-5) opens Ivy League play at home against Harvard on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Women’s Hockey

UConn 5, Dartmouth 2

Hanover — The Big Green closed the calendar, as well as a nine-game homestand, with a loss to the Huskies (5-7-7) at Thompson Arena.

Junior Tess Bracken and freshman Linda Essery netted a goal apiece for Dartmouth (3-10-0). Seniors Hailey Noronha and Morgan Turner, junior Alyssa Baker and freshman Katerina Dajia all had assists. Junior goalie Christine Honor had 32 saves.

The Big Green resumes ECAC play this weekend with a visit to Union and RPI.
