Crew

Hanover competitive
against St. Paul’s

The Hanover boys and girls crew teams each won two races against St. Paul’s School last weekend on Turkey Pond in Concord, where strong headwinds gusting to more than 30 miles per hour created a significant chop on the water.

The boys eight in the third boat won by two seconds (5:50 to 5:52) in the 1,400-meter race, and the fifth boat won by 20 seconds (6:33 to 6:53). The first and second boats lost their races by four and two seconds, respectively. The Hanover girls eight won in the fourth boat (7:13 to 7:35) and fifth boat (6:37 to 6:56). A little bad luck struck the girls third boat when an oar popped loose just after the race started, forcing the team to stop briefly to get it back in the oarlock.
