WELLS RIVER, Vt. — The Thetford Academy girls soccer team rebounded Monday after suffering its worst loss of the season four days earlier.

The Panthers beat Blue Mountain, 2-0, on goals by freshman Lizzie Brown and sophomore Reece Kenney.

“We are focused on fundamentals, developing a winning attitude and building a competitive program,” said first-year coach Patrick Perry, whose squad suffered an 8-0 loss to Lake Region during its previous contest. “I was really happy to see my girls respond with such tenacity and determination. That bodes well for a young team.”

Thetford won for just the third time in its past 21 games after going 1-14-0 last season. The Panthers were once the bane of VPA Division III, reaching the finals four consecutive times and winning championships in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Thetford also captured the 1994 crown.

The Panthers handed the Bucks (0-5-0) their second shutout of the season. They take a step up in competition when Division II Harwood visits on Wednesday.
