HANOVER — The Hanover High boys soccer team raced out to a 6-0 lead by halftime against Alvirne on Tuesday and won, 7-0, on Tuesday night at Merriman-Branch Field for its fifth consecutive victory.
The Bears are second in the NHIAA Division I standings, trailing only undefeated Pinkerton, which it hosts Oct. 14.
Ryder Hayes and Zach Tracy each scored during the first 10 minutes for Hanover (7-1-0). Hayes’ goal was his team-best ninth of the season. Veer Patel scored his first two varsity goals. Sean Smith added a goal and a pair of assists.
Andrew McGuire and Will Guerin also scored and Carter Guerin notched an assist, his team-leading seventh. Henry Cotter made a pair of saves to record his first varsity shutout. Alvirne fell to 1-6-0 and suffered its fifth shutout.
Coach Rob Grabill praised the play of Gavin Munson and Roan Palm in the midfield. Hanover visits Merrimack (2-4) on Tuesday.
Lebanon 3, Laconia 0 LEBANON — The Raiders scored all three goals during the second half and improved to 8-0-0.
Nick Brill broke through first, unassisted, during the 44th minute. Theo Vassiliou, assisted by Brill, followed two minutes later. Dom Calandrella scored during the 78th minute, assisted by Otto Bourne, for the clincher.
Lebanon visits Pembroke on Thursday.
Woodstock 1, Leland & Gray 0 (OT) TOWNSHEND, Vt. — Ezra Lockhart converted a extra-time penalty kick to lift the Wasps to 2-2-0.
Reid Allegretti drew the opportunity after he was brought down in the penalty area.
The Wasps visit Otter Valley on Friday.
Hartford 0, Rutland 0 (OT) RUTLAND — The Hurricanes (2-1-2) settled for their second consecutive draw.
Hartford had nine corners and 19 free kicks. Goalkeeper Mason Chase made three saves for the Canes, who visit Fair Haven on Friday.
Girls Soccer Lebanon 4, Keene 0 KEENE, N.H. — The Raiders (4-3-1) scored three times during the second half.
Sophie Longacre notched the game’s only first-half goal, with assists to Annie Hanna and Mari Utell. Phoebe Ballard, assisted by Longacre, opened the second-half scoring for the visitors. Izzy Hamilton added a goal off a Brooke Walker assist and Longacre closed the scoring, assisted by both Hanna and keeper Maezie Angles.
Angles made three saves for the Raiders, who visit Pembroke on Friday.
Windsor 11, Randolph 0 RANDOLPH, Vt. — Audrey Rupp had four goals and Olivia MacLeay added two goals and an assist as the Yellowjackets rolled.
Kenzie Westcott had two goals and Sophia Dufour, Brianna Barton and Lilly Keefe also scored for Windsor. Kemari Wildgoose had an assist.
Windsor (4-1-0) hosts Green Mountain on Thursday.
Field Hockey Hartford 9, St. Johnsbury 1 ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — Kamryn Brower had four goals and an assist to lead the Hurricanes (4-0-0).
“The key to this game was the commanding midfield play of Gabby Gardner and Paige Trombly,” said Hartford coach Heather Scudder.
Maddi Willey added two goals and two assists for the visitors, and Madison Barwood had a goal and an assist. Flynn Moreno and Hailey Vanesse also scored for Hartford, which hosts Bellows Falls on Thursday.
Newfound 3, Mascoma 2 BRISTOL, N.H. — The Royals surrendered a pair of goals during the fourth quarter and fell to 4-3-0.
Makenna Houston answered an early Newfound goal to make it 1-1 after the first quarter. Ann Buffington put Mascoma in the front, 2-1, with a third-quarter goal.
The Royals host Winnisquam on Saturday.
Windsor 2, Brattleboro 0 BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — The Yellowjackets (3-1-0) received goals from McKenzie Kleefisch and Amber Simonds, the latter on a penalty stroke, for the vicgtory.
Gabby Gilbert had an assist and Sydney Perry made 10 saves for Windsor, which visits rival Woodstock (2-1) on Friday.
Golf Hartford second atRutland InvitationalRUTLAND — The VPA Division II Hurricanes finished runners-up to the hosts, Division I Rutland, during the 18-hole Rutland Invitational at Rutland Country Club.
Jaden Poirier led the Canes with a 9-over-par 79. Matt Tsouknakis added an 86, Thomas Thorburn shot 90 and Sean Dunton carded 96. Rutland won with a team total of 319, followed by Hartford at 351.
Hartford visits Woodstock on Wednesday and is scheduled to participate in the 18-hole Battenkill Cup at Dorset Field Club on Friday.
Cross Country Wiedrick tops for O’sNEWPORT, Vt. — Casey Wiedrick finished 13th in the girls race to lead a contingent of Oxbow runners at the Kingdom Cup, hosted by North Country.
Wiedrick was 13th in 25 minutes, 32.36 seconds, for the Olympian girls. Teammate Libby Swift finished 52nd in 37:28.46.
Kevin Page led the Oxbow boys in 44th overall (23:54.81). Benjamin Nelson was 69th (31:09.00), and Seamus Fleming was 72nd (32:15.00).
“It was a very wet and muddy afternoon of racing. I’m very proud of how our runners performed today despite the conditions,” said Oxbow coach Cassie Saikin.
