MANCHESTER, N.H. — The Hanover High boys cross country team won the NHIAA Division II championship Saturday with four runners finishing in the top 10.

The Hanover girls placed second with three runners in the top 10, led by sophomore Lea Perreard, who won the 5K race at Derryfield Park in 18 minutes, 48 seconds.

The Lebanon girls were 5th and its boys 14th.

Coe-Brown’s Jamie Lano won the boys’ race in 16:24. Hanover’s top finisher, Ryan Faris, was fourth in the field of 124 runners with a time of 16:37. He was followed by Lucian Gleiser (5th, 16:45), Andrew Valentino (7th, 16:52), Ben Groves (8th, 16:54) and Will Parker (16th, 17:29).

Hanover’s top girls finishers behind Perreard were Lila Muirhead (3rd, 19:23), Megan Faris (5th, 19:35), Lily Terry (11th, 21:15) Millie Larrick (13th, 21:19) and Sarah Glueck (20th, 21:37).

“It is hard to pin down a stand-alone performance,” said Hanover High coach Eric Picconi, who was excited by the 52-second gap between Faris and Parker. “They all did so well for each other and that made all the difference.”

Picconi said the Bears girls were a long shot against Oyster River but performed exceptionally well and finished just four points behind.

Both teams advance to next week’s Meet of Champions at Alvirne High, with hopes of qualifying for the New England Championship in Maine.

Lebanon’s top boys finishers were Nick Engert (36th, 18:54), Augustin Ramos-Glew (39th, 19:01) and Ryle Isuga (58th, 19:54). The Raiders’ top girls finishers were Olivia Hanna (12th, 21:17), Annie Hanna (26th, 21:56) and Sophia Mladek (43rd, 24:10).

Mascoma cross country boys 3rd in D-III championships

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Gunner Currier’s fifth-place finish among 178 runners at Derryfield Park led the Royals against 22 opponents.

Currier crossed in 16:52, behnd winner Bocelli Howland-Viahakis of Gilford, who finished in 16:14.

Mascoma’s Trevor Maheu was 31st (19:17) with teammates Carl Russell 40th (19:30), Brody Albanese 41st (19:31) and Karson Rogers 47th (19:47). Newport, which finished 19th, was led by Bryce Palmer (50th, 20:00), Noah Fryman (80th, 21:19) and Michael Bohn (82nd, 21:22).

Thetford girls, boys second in Vermont D-III championships

THETFORD — Thetford Academy’s Ben Mattern won the Vermont Division III cross country race and the Panthers boys and girls teams each finished second.

Mattern completed the 5K ahead of 88 runners in 17:51, with teammates Brady Sloop third (18:06), Sebastian Perdizet sixth (19:03), Jasper Jones 18th (20:57) and Wendell Durham 22nd (21:19). Mattern’s time was 13th among all divisions, encapsulating 250 runners.

The White River Valley girls were fifth, led by Anya Young (2nd, 21:54) and Anita Miller (3rd, 22:10). Young was 13th among all divisions and 234 runners.

Also scoring for Thetford in the divisional field of 82 were Ava Hayden (5th, 23:00), Charlize Brown (9th, 24:18), Annie Hesser (10th, 24:31) and Lucia Carr (14th, 25:07).

White River Valley’s boys, who did not have enough runners for a teams score, enjoyed a fifth-place finish by Lincoln Miller (18:51) and 12th from Tomo Watanabe (21:19).

Woodstock enjoys strong day at Division III cross country race

THETFORD — Woodstock’s Logan Knox was sixth in 22:06, leading the Wasps girls to a fifth-place finish. Other Woodstock girls included Izzy Cellini (11th, 22:53) and Lila Beckwith (27th, 24:57).

The Woodstock boys were eighth, with the Wasps’ James Underwood taking seventh place in 18:07). He was followed by teammates Nicholas Cellini (42nd, 21:10), Keller Pauly (47th, 21:35) and Owen Courcey (58th, 23:23).

Hartford’s boys were led by Bennett Moreno, (18th, 19:13), Jack Fournier-Stephens (37th, 20:48) and Hugh Wendling (49th, 21:58).

RICHFORD, Vt. — Will Knowles had three goals and Jacoby Patterson added one as the fifth-seeded Raptors knocked off the fourth-seeded Falcons (10-4) in a Vermont Division IV quarterfinal match.

Carter Bacon had 12 saves for the Raptors (10-5-1), who will visit top-seeded Twin Valley (15-0) in a Wednesday semifinal game. The Wildcats won the teams’ regular-season matchup, 1-0, on Oct. 6.

Enosburg Falls 4, Woodstock 2

WOODSTOCK — The Wasps fell in the Division II quarterfinals and finished 8-7. Fifth-seeded Enosburg Falls is 10-5.

Ezra Lockhart scored both Woodstock goals. Bode Wood had an assist and Parker Pierce made five saves for the hosts, who trailed, 2-0, at halftime.

FOOTBALL Windsor 47, Poultney 12

WINDSOR — The second-seeded Yellowjackets cruised to a quarterfinal victory, scoring four touchdowns on the ground and three in the air.

Anthony Cook caught a 40-yard score from Daniel Steffensen and scored on a 35-yard throw from Corey Lockwood. Lockwood hit Trevor LaGrow for a 15-yard touchdown against the seventh-seeded Blue Devils (2-6)..

Steffensen had a 60-yard touchdown run and Brady Olmstead had two rushing touchdowns of 1 and 15 yards. Windsor will host sixth seeded Springfield (5-4) on Saturday. The homestanding Yellowjackets won the teams’ regular-season meeting, 32-6, on Oct. 6.

Newport 44, Raymond 40

RAYMOND, N.H. — The banged-up Tigers (7-0) held off the Rams (5-2) and secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NHIAA Division IV playoffs.

Newport’s Kyle Ashley ran for two scores and threw for a third to Aiden Couitt. Aaron Fellows hit Christian Forysthe for another touchdown and Kobie Curtis ran for a touchdown.

“We struggled against the pass and they like to throw it about 75 percent of the time,” said Newport coach John Proper. “But we were able to move the ball pretty well.”
