CLAREMONT – The Stevens High girls soccer team advanced to the NHIAA Division III semifinals Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Kearsarge.

Freshman Faith Norton’s goal off a Payton Ferland assist midway through the first half lifted the fourth-seeded Cardinals past the fifth-seeded Cougars (11-5-2). The teams split their two regular-season meetings.

Stevens (14-2-2) will face top-seeded St. Thomas (16-0-2) on Wednesday at Manchester Memorial High. St. Thomas won the teams’ regular-season meeting, 4-1, on Sept. 26 in Claremont.

Portsmouth 1, Hanover 0

PORTSMOUTH — The seventh-seeded Bears (11-5-2) couldn’t knock off the second-seeded Clippers (15-2) but surrendered a direct-kick goal during the 16th minute. Sadie Ross finished with 10 saves for the visitors during the NHIAA Division I quarterfinal.

“Unfortunately, strong play and possession don’t necessarily result in goals and so it was for the Bears,” said Hanover coach Doug Kennedy.

HOLLIS, N.H. — The top-seeded Chargers (18-0) dropped the eighth-seeded Raiders (9-8-1) in an NHIAA Division II quarterfinal. Hollis-Brookline won the teams’ regular-season meeting, 6-0.
