WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock High football team overcame a seven-point halftime deficit Saturday night to defeat neighboring rival Windsor, 36-15. The result snapped the Yellowjackets’ 28-game winning streak.

The victory also earned the Wasps (7-1) the top seed in the upcoming Vermont Division III playoffs. Windsor (6-1), the three-time defending champion, didn’t score after halftime and will be second in the eight-team draw.

Junior Caeden Perrault had a monster night for the hosts, rushing 15 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns, catching a 27-yard touchdown pass and making 11 tackles, eight of them solo stops. Vince Petrone had 12 tackles, 10 of them solo and two for a loss. He also contributed a sack and forced a fumble.

“Considering the magnitude of the game, I think it was his best effort this season,” said 11th-year Wasps coach Ramsey Worrell. “It seems like every week he or Vince is having a performance like this.”

Woodstock fullback Carter Warren carried six times for 93 yards and a touchdown, almost all of his offensive action coming in the first half.

Corey Lockwood and Brody Osgood scored for Windsor. The visitors led, 15-8, at intermission.

Windsor “ran a formation we didn’t anticipate so it took us time to adjust,” Worrell said. “We also had to adjust to the speed and intensity of the game. We’ve only had two or three at that level this year.”

Woodstock features only four seniors and was 4-5 last season, so Saturday’s environment was new to many of the Wasps. Worrell has a freshman and a sophomore as his cornerbacks, a sophomore quarterback and several juniors who are still 16.

“Our kids played tough and together. Iit might have been the first time this season that we played for something bigger than just winning a game.”
