Hanover, Mascoma have strong performance
at Meet of Champions
Going up against the 39 other cross country teams in the state, the Hanover High girls finished second, just three points behind winner Oyster River, 74-71, among 17 team scores at the Meet of Champions at Alvrine High School in Hudson, N.H., on Saturday.
The Hanover boys were fifth and the Mascoma boys finished 14th among 18 teams scores and 35 teams total.
“The girls went toe-to-toe with Oyster River,” Hanover coach Eric Picconi said. “Megan (Faris) had another amazing race with Lea (Perreard) and Aria (Deeb). Alice (Bell) stepped up today, and Millie (Larrick) was right there in the cavalry.”
Faris was fourth in a field of 142 runners with a time of 18 minutes, 3 seconds. Bell was 14th (18:52), Perreard was 20th (19:08), Larrick 21st (19:11) and Deeb 24th (19:15).
For Hanover boys, Picconi said they hung tough after a fast start in the field of 144 runners and the top seven eclipsed 17 minutes.
“All things considered, there are no complaints, and (sophomore) Ben Groves showed he is one of the star runners to watch next season,” Picconi said. “He ran with command and did not let anyone wrestle that sixth place away from him.”
Groves crossed in 15:36. Mascoma’s Gunner Currier was eighth (15:40).
“Real proud of the performance by the guys today, capping off an undefeated season against Division III schools,” Mascoma coach Rick Currier said. “Individually, Gunner had Mascoma’s highest MOC finish ever and will now turn his focus onto New England’s next Saturday.”
Also running for Hanover were Nandeesh Jain (29th, 16:11), Ryan Faris (43rd, 16:34) and Donovan Van Citters (45th, 16:36). Lebanon’s top finishers were Annalies Hanna (22nd, 19:13) and Ian Kiefer, (81st 17:13). Lebanon did not have team scores.
