Tunbridge nonprofit seeks winter clothing for fundraiser

TUNBRIDGE — The Orange County Parent Child Center is accepting donations of gently worn, good-condition winter clothing and gear for an upcoming fundraiser.

Items can be dropped off at the center, located at 693 Route 10, from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday from now through Dec. 2.

Pond hockey tournament to benefit Norris Cotton Cancer Center

FAIRLEE — A new pond hockey tournament, Put Cancer on Ice, will support cancer research and patient support services at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center.

The tournament will be held at Lake Morey Resort on Saturday, Feb. 8, and Sunday, Feb. 9. Check-in, a shoot-out and entertainment will kick off the tournament on Friday night, Feb. 7.

Each team will be made up of six players. Play will be divided into three divisions: League (more competitive), Pond (recreational), and 50+ (people born Feb. 8, 1970, or earlier), according to a news release from the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center.  Games will take place all day on Saturday and be capped by a tournament dinner and entertainment. Play will resume on Sunday morning followed by the championship game and an awards ceremony in the afternoon. The weekend will come to a close around 4 p.m. Sunday.

It costs $550 per team to register, with a fundraising minimum of $200 per team. Free agents can register for $100 per person with a fundraising minimum of $25.

Winter parking ban begins in Lebanon on Dec. 1

LEBANON — Lebanon’s winter parking ban will take effect on Saturday, Dec. 1, and end on April 1.

The annual ban prohibits parking on any street in Lebanon or West Lebanon from midnight to 6 a.m. The ban also extends to city parking lots.

St. James Episcopal Church welcomes new rector

WOODSTOCK — Amy Spagna has been selected as the new full-time rector at St. James Episcopal Church of Woodstock.

Spagna is a priest from the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, according to a news release from St. James. She has served at Christ Church in Westerly, R.I., and Trinity Episcopal Church in Bethlehem, Pa. She earned her Master of Sacred Theology from The School of Theology at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., and a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in Latin and Greek from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va.

“We are excited to embark on this new chapter at St. James,” Senior Warden Barbara Johnson said in the release. “We are blessed to have such an accomplished and energetic new Reverend to lead us at St. James.”

Regional commission receives EPA water quality grant

WOODSTOCK — The Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation as part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency pass-through funds for Water Quality Planning, according to a news release from the organization.

The money will go toward the organization’s efforts to compile water quality data and to conduct outreach with residents and municipalities on important surface waters and wetlands, according to the release. It will also help support water quality monitoring activities.

Cohase Chamber looking for business and citizen of the year nominations

The Cohase Chamber of Commerce is currently seeking nominations from the public for its annual Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year awards.

These awards are presented to businesses and individuals who have had a significant impact on the regional community and will be awarded at the Cohase Chamber annual meeting on Jan. 21, 2020, according to a news release from the organization.

The deadline for submissions is Dec. 3.

Last year, Copeland Furniture received the Business of the Year award and Monique Priestley of Bradford, Vt., received the Citizen of the Year award.

Nominees for both awards must meet certain requirements.
