Leon G. Shatney

Cornish Flat, N.H. — Leon G. Shatney, better known to most as Johnny, passed away on his 79th birthday, Thursday, April 27, 2017, with his sister Eula by his side at Genesis Health Care.

Leon was born in Danville, Vt. on April 27,1938, the son of Clifton H. and Mable A. Shatney. His father passed away when he was a young child and was raised by his step-father Raymond Barnett.

During his childhood he lived in Cabot, Vt., and Bradford, Vt., before his family settled in Lebanon, N.H. Upon completing his schooling he entered the Air Force and served his country for four years

He worked several jobs before going to work for Split Ball Bearing, now Timken Aerospace, where he retired after 33 years of service to the company. His hobbies included collecting Star Trek memorabilia and making clocks using old vinyl records. He also enjoyed figuring out the latest electronic gadget. He loved and spoiled his two cats, Blossom and Thomas, whom brought great comfort in his declining health.

Leon is survived by his sister, Eula R. Bowley, of North Hartland, Vt.; two daughters, Kimberly Tassone and husband, Ray of Newport, N.H., Dawn Merchant of Newport; six grandchildren and a great-grandson; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Robert Shatney; an infant daughter, Lisa; two nephews, Timothy and Kenneth Withington.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 13, at 11 a.m. in the Edminister Cemetery in Cornish. The Reverend Dale Nicholas will officiate.

The Springer Funeral Home in Claremont are in charge of the arrangements.
