WEST LEBANON — A reported burglary at a West Lebanon home prompted a heavy police response including more than 10 law enforcement vehicles, a police dog and officers with drawn weapons on Friday afternoon, neighbors reported.

Lebanon police said an investigation is ongoing and provided no further information.

But the large police response to a home at 108 South Main St., next door to the Hannaford supermarket, sent residents fearful for their safety into their homes, neighbors said on Friday.

“I got my son off the bus and we went in the house and locked the door,” said Jennifer Mead, who lives nearby.

Mead said she arrived home at 2:20 p.m. When her son’s school bus pulled up outside their home 10 minutes later, the neighborhood was flooded with “at least 10” police cruisers. “The first one to enter the house was a policeman with a K-9,” Mead said in an interview outside her home on Friday.

Mead said another officer approached her to ask if she had a security camera pointed in the direction of the house in question.

Neighbors said the home, which is a few hundred feet from the supermarket, was the target of a burglary a couple months ago.
