WEST LEBANON – Lebanon Municipal Airport will receive $1.6 million in federal funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for needed airport upgrades, according to news release from lawmakers.

In a recent joint press release, New Hampshire’s congressional delegation announced more than $1.8 million in grants from the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law will be distributed through the New Hampshire State Block Grant Program to municipal airports in Lebanon, Concord and Merrimack.

Lebanon Airport Director Carl Gross said the funding will be used for repairs to the northern half of the airport apron, which was installed more than 30 years ago. Apron upgrades are typically recommended every 20 to 25 years.

Gross said this is the second year of funding from a five-year grant provided through the federal infrastructure bill.

“The bill has provided not just airports but municipalities and states with funds to do repair work above any beyond what we ordinarily receive in grant funding,” Gross told the Valley News.

The Concord and Merrimack airports will each receive $180,000.

Gross explained that Lebanon received a significantly larger grant because it is a commercial airport, whose grant funding is calculated under a different formula from airports that do not provide commercial flights.

Gross said the airport will seek contract bids for the apron upgrade later this month and hope to begin construction this fall or early next spring.
