Lebanon City Council Takes No Action On Homeless Ordinance

Lebanon — The City Council tonight took no action on a proposed ordinance that critics have said would criminalize homelessness in the city.

At the culmination of the two-hour public hearing on the ordinance, during which public comment was near universally against the proposal, council members decided not to take up the proposal. Instead, they decided to take steps to create a task force to examine the issue.

If passed, the proposal, drafted by city staff, would make parking or camping in city-owned lots for more than two hours between dusk and dawn illegal and punishable by a $100 fine.
