Tunbridge, Vt. — Kathleen E. Welch, 95 died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, Vt.

She was born Jan. 30, 1923 in Tunbridge the daughter of Percy H. and Bessie (Farnham) Welch. She attended school in Tunbridge and later South Royalton, Vt. where she graduated in 1941 from South Royalton High School.

She served 2 1/2 years in the Waves Division of the U.S. Navy during World War II. While in the service she was stationed at the Naval Air Station on the Pawtuxet River in Maryland.

She had worked fifteen years at the Tunbridge General Store for George Wood and later Verne Steves. For many years after work she would help with the milking and chores on the family farm. In 1967 she was elected town clerk and treasurer for the Town of Tunbridge. She held this position until her retirement in 1995. At the time of her retirement the Vermont State Legislature, passed a resolution to honor her for her many years of service to the town.

She enjoyed vegetable gardening, knitting, crocheting and reading.

She was a member of the Green Mountain Girls #113 (a local unit of Waves National) and several other women’s military groups.

She is survived by a sister Agnes Allen of Chelsea, Vt. and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Donald Welch, David Welch and Stanley Welch; two sisters, Jessie Tucker and Gladys Tuller.

There are no public calling hours. A graveside funeral service will be held later this spring at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vt.
