Georges Mills, N.H. — John Phillips Stearns, a most loyal Dartmouth graduate of the Class of 1949, has rejoined many classmates to share again those happy years. John died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, in New London Hospital in the company of his children and one grandson.

John is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Winifred Clarke Anthony, from Palm Beach, Fla.; his children, Winifred Clarke Stearns Hussey (Dartmouth ‘82) of Seattle, Wash. and John Anthony Stearns (Dartmouth ‘86) of Alameda, Calif.; three adored Hussey grandchildren – Luke (Dartmouth ‘11), Duncan and Clarkie; and a widely scattered family, all much loved, who keep alive family ties. Sadly, Winnie and John were pre-deceased by their son Malcolm Kendall Stearns in 2002.

After graduating Dartmouth summa cum laude in 1949, John spent the following years graduating from Harvard Law School and serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as an intelligence officer. He worked on Wall Street in New York City in law and international banking before retiring to Hanover in 1988.

The family is very thankful for two years of excellent care that John received at Sunapee Cove Assisted Living and New London Hospital, with special love and gratitude to Dr. John Kirk, who was always there.

Rest In Peace.
