Orange, Vt. — John R. Layton, Sr., 58, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at his home.

John was born June 9, 1960, in Lakewood, N.J., a son of Ronald and Sharon (Simmonds) Layton. He grew up in Toms River, N.J., and attended Toms River High School South.

After high school John found his calling as a drywall finisher and painter, a trade he was truly proud of and passed on to his children. In the late 1990’s he moved to Burlington, Vt. to be closer to his family and later settled on his dream property in Orange. John was an extremely hard worker and his passion for his trade made it easy for him.

He is survived by three daughters, Michelle Scelza and her husband Chris of Hartland, Vt., Carol Layton of Burlington, and Miley Layton of Orange; two sons, John R. Layton, Jr. of Lebanon, N.H. and Jack Layton of Orange; three sisters, Bonnie Layton of Bluebell, Pa., Sherry “Cricket” Petri of South Toms River, and Becky Crimmons also of South Toms River; and two brothers, Stephen Layton of Westminster, Md., and James Crimmons of Lanoka Harbor, N.J.
