Joanne H. (Strait) Waddell

Springfield, N.H. — Joanne H. (Strait) Waddell, 76, of Greeley Road, died Saturday, March 3, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Ogdensburg, N.Y. on April 27, 1941, the daughter of Herbert Strait and Mildred (Terrance) Bresset. Joanne was raised by her adopted parents, Bill and Loretta Rozman.

She worked at various jobs including waitressing at Hide Away Lodge, working in the deli at Cricenti’s Market, as an EMT for Springfield FAST Squad and the New London Ambulance, a teller at New London Trust Co. and a receptionist/switchboard operator at New London Hospital and Alice Peck Day Hospital.

She loved traveling and visiting with family. Proud of her Indian Heritage, Joanne was a member of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe in Akwesasne, N.Y.

She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Strait; a sister, Holly Strait; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Amy and Frank Anderson.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 49 years, Matthew R. Waddell of Springfield; five children, Donald Hufault and his fiancee, Carol Beech of Springfield, Jay and his wife, Rachel Hufault of Wilmot, N.H., Lisa and her husband, Leon Moore and Tammy and her husband, Joel Cobb of Charlestown, N.H. and Matthew Waddell of Springfield; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonita Strait, Candice Clouthier, Donna Stuber and Colby Haines; stepbrother, Mark Cook; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy Jurczyk, Sue and Bill Anderson, Richard and Betty Waddell, Bill Waddell, Scott Waddell; many nieces, nephews and cousins; longtime friends, Elaine Avery, Ken and Mary Harmon.

A graveside service will be held in Pleasant View Cemetery, Springfield in the spring.
