Suspicious Hartland Shooting Under Investigation

Hartland — Vermont State Police are investigating the circumstances of a shooting in Hartland Three Corners on Tuesday night.

Timothy Murphy Jr., 22, of Hartland, suffered an “apparent” gunshot wound in the 9 p.m. incident on Route 5. The wound was “superficial” and is non-life-threatening, Vermont State Police said in a news release.

Just who is responsible remains under investigation.

“The Vermont State Police are investigating this incident as suspicious,” an updated release said on Wednesday. “At this time, the shooting appears not to be random, and there is no indication of any risk to the public.”

Someone contacted Vermont State Police shortly after 9 p.m. saying they heard gunshots and saw an injured Murphy on Route 5.

Police identified the victim as Murphy, who had been transported by a private vehicle to Mt. Ascutney Hospital, where he received treatment, the release states.

Attempts to reach Murphy were unsuccessful.
