Hartford police chief finalists to be interviewed next week

HARTFORD — Town officials will be interviewing two finalists for police chief next week, according to a Friday news release.

Hartford, which has been without a permanent police chief since former Police Chief Phil Kasten left in February 2021, has worked with the International Association of Chiefs of Police conduct a national search, which found the two finalists: John Poleway and Patrick Torneo.

Poleway has 29 years of police experience and 14 years of command-level experience. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

For his part, Torneo has 20 years of police experience and nine years of command-level experience. He holds a master’s in public administration from Post University in Waterbury, Conn.

The town is slated to make a decision by the end of August.
