WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hartford School Board named Sara Campbell, chairwoman of the Hartford Committee on Racial Equity and Inclusion, or HCOREI, to fill a vacant board seat previously held by Russell North.

Board members voted unanimously for Campbell’s appointment at a meeting on Aug. 26 to serve the remainder of a three-year term that ends in March. Campbell was the lone applicant.

Campbell, a project manager at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, has served on HCOREI since its formation in 2017, the last two years as chairwoman. She has two children who are students in the school district.

In an application letter to the School Board, Campbell described herself as a “self-starter” who works well independently or in collaboration with others.

North, who announced in June that he was moving from Hartford, served his last meeting on June 28. He was elected to the board in 2018 and won reelection to a second term in 2021.

He started on the board when he was appointed in 2015 to fill the remaining year of a vacant seat.
