WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Technology and career centers in White River Junction and Bradford, Vt., will offer women-only welding classes as part of a new training series aimed at recruiting more women into the welding field.

“Women in Welding” is a partnership between Vermont Works for Women, a Winooski-based nonprofit organization, and the Vermont Adult Career and Technical Education Association.

“Being the ‘only’ woman — or one of just a few — in a nontraditional training program or career can lead to feelings of isolation and a lack of belonging, making it less likely that women will enter or remain in these field,” Alison Lamagna, director of impact at Vermont Works for Women, said in a news release. “Creating spaces that are free from judgment and bias, where women feel safe, supported, and surrounded by others with similar experiences, is a key strategy for reducing these barriers.”

The Hartford Area Career and Technology Center in White River Junction is hosting a class that begins April 22 and runs through May 8. It is scheduled to meet from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

River Bend Career and Technical Center in Bradford, Vt., has a course that is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10 and Saturday, May 17.

The Hartford class costs $350 and the Bradford class costs $250. Financial aid is available.
