Grafton, N.H. — Harold Edward Duefield Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on Turnpike Road in Grafton on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, where he lived for 64 years. He was born April 28, 1930, in Francestown, N.H., the son of Harold Edward and Anne (Boisvert) Duefield.

He worked 50-plus years in the wood industry in New Hampshire starting at a young age as a logger, then becoming a board sawyer. He was known for his hard work and dedication to the industry until he retired. Before retiring he was a consultant with computer programmers in setting up software that is used for automated sawing operations.

On Nov. 11, 1948, he married Dorothy Jennie Littlefield and lived in their Grafton home together where they both renovated the house and property, and raised their three children until her passing in 1993.

He served on the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department for many years achieving the rank of Asst. Chief. Hunting was his passion, an excellent marksman well known in his time for winning many turkey shoots in the local area.

Late in life, he could be found fly fishing for Bass, sitting in a lawn chair in his aluminum canoe at School Pond in Danbury, N.H. Owning one of the first huge satellite dishes, when it became obsolete, he made it into a gazebo that can still be used today, where he spent many summer days. Never one to take his automobiles to a garage, he was a self-taught mechanic.

He loved playing a friendly poker game with local folks in town, and having friends and family over for a Saturday night of bluegrass music picking the guitar or playing the fiddle, as Dorothy was on the piano.

He is survived by son, Frederick of Woodstock, Vt.; granddaughter, Christy Lynn Vanderveer of Windsor, Vt.; great-granddaughter, Samantha Picard of Claremont, N.H., great-grandson, Dylan O’Bryant of Windsor, great-grandson, Joshua Duefield of Woodstock; great-great- granddaughter, Faith Desiree-Alice Vanderveer of Windsor, great-great granddaughter, Karmann Christina-Leigh Picard of Claremont; and many more nieces and nephews; brothers, Donald Duefield of Windsor, William Duefield of Hillsboro, N.H.; sisters, Beverly Bowen of Maricopa, Ariz., Shirley Duefield of Bradford, N.H., Dorothy Spaulding of Hillsboro, N.H., Laura Allen of Lillian, Ala. and Louise Rupprecht of Weymouth, Mass.
