HANOVER — Bernice A. Ray School is one of two Granite State schools to receive a National Blue Ribbon Schools Award from the U.S. Department of Education.
Throughout the country, 356 schools received the honor, according to a Wednesday announcement from the New Hampshire Department of Education. In New Hampshire, the Ray School joins Nashua’s Academy for Science and Design in accepting the award.
Established in 1982, the Blue Ribbon Schools program recognizes public and private K-12 schools based on overall academic excellence or on their success in closing achievement gaps, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
“From start to finish, each and every day, our community comes together to educate our students, empowering them to dream, create, think critically and contribute to the greater good,” Ray School Principal Lauren Amrhein said in a press release.
The Ray School in Hanover serves roughly 450 students in grades K-5.
“We are proud and honored to receive recognition of the tireless efforts of our incredible faculty, staff, SAU, Hanover School Board and community on behalf of our students,” Amrhein said.
