KEENE, N.H. — Former Hanover High School golfer Jack Meehan closed out the three-day New Hampshire Stroke Play Championship at Keene Country Club on Thursday with a share of seventh-place in the 52-golfer field.

A rising sophomore at Tufts University, Meehan shot an even-par 72 for Thursday’s round and finished at 8-over 224 for the tournament. The New England Small College Athletic Conference co-rookie of the year for the Jumbos earlier this year, Meehan — playing for Hanover CC Online — gradually improved during the week, shooting a 6-over 78 on Tuesday and 2-over 74 on Wednesday to set up his top-10 finish.

Another former Hanover High standout, Baker Hill’s Phin Choukas, retreated during the 54-hole tourney. The rising senior at Middlebury College was tied for sixth at 3-over 75 after the opening round but shot 77-86 the rest of the way for a share of 22nd place at 22-over 238.

Among other Upper Valley golfers, Newport Golf Club’s Steve Haselton tied for 27th (82-80-79-241) and Hanover CC Online’s Zach Melcher shared 32nd (81-79-86-246). Laconia’s Jim Cilley won the tournament at 1-over 217 (73-73-71) for his first New Hampshire Golf Association crown in 10 years.
