HANOVER — The Hanover Conservancy plans to announce Wednesday a $2 million capital campaign geared mainly toward continuing to look after the land it has already conserved in town.

Founded in 1961, the conservancy has safeguarded more than 1,000 acres in Hanover, and has been partner to protection of another 1,700 acres, it said in a news release.

Half of the $2 million campaign goal would go into the organization’s endowment, which provides funding for ongoing costs of conservation. Another $425,000 would fund new conservation efforts, while $300,000 would be earmarked for stewardship and another $275,000 for community engagement.

So far, the conservancy has raised more than $1.3 million toward the $2 million goal. The Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation has made a challenge grant of $600,000.
