HARTLAND — The Hammond Cove Shooting Range is set to reopen on April 1 after its closure for the winter season.

The range, which includes a six-port, 100-yard rifle range and a pistol bench, operates under rules set by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. Range users must have a valid Vermont hunting or fishing license, or be the guest of someone who does.

Shooters and spectators are required to wear hearing and eye protection, and children aged 16 or younger must be accompanied by an adult.

A list of the range rules can be read here: vtfishandwildlife.com/hunt/shooting-ranges/hammond-cove-shooting-range.

“Understanding how your gun performs is a vital part of being an ethical hunter,” wrote Dylan Smith, the facility and lands coordinator for Vermont Fish and Wildlife, in a news release.

The shooting range is located at the end of Ferry Road, open Thursday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
