Town Meeting preview: Grafton

Articles of note: One article would establish a Police Department Speical Detail Revolving Fund. Another would give the Selectboard authority to acquire or sell property. A petitioned article, which has the support of the Budget Committee but not the Selectboard, asks to raise and appropriate $996,000 for a new library at 2 Library Road, also known as the Gray Lot, with funding to come from the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority’s Community Center Investment Program, as well as grants, donations and a library capital reserve fund. Another petitioned article would subdivide the property known as the East Grafton Union Church and parsonage and sell the vacant parsonage to neighbor Andrew Cushing. A third petitioned article, supported by the Budget Committee, but not the Selectboard, would raise $13,000 to bring back a demolition container to the recycling center for residents’ use.
Contested races: Steve Darrow and Maureen O'Reilly are competing for a two-year seat on the Selectboard.
Budgets and spending articles: The proposed budget is $1.35 million, which is up from $1.29 million last year. Separate articles call for $100,000 for the Highway Department Capital Reserve Fund, $75,000 for paving town roads, $50,000 for the Bridge Capital Reserve Fund, $15,000 for the Town Hall Repairs Capital Reserve Fund, $15,000 for the Property Tax Revaluation Capital Reserve Fund, and $10,000 each for a Fire Department Apparatus Capital Reserve Fund and a Recycling Capital Reserve Fund.
When, where and how to vote: Ballot voting will take place on Tuesday, March 12 at the Grafton Fire/Ambulance Station from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
