Articles of note: The Selectboard recommends an article that would change the police chief’s position to an appointed post beginning in 2024. The board also recommends an article that would rescind an article from 2014 that gave the library trustees the ability to expend from the Library Capital Reserve Fund.

A petitioned article, not supported by the Selectboard or Budget Committee, would raise and appropriate $210,000 for the first phase of a new library at 2 Library Road. Another petitioned article would require a building notification for occupied buildings that are permanently fixed to the ground, but not for mobile or temporary structures.

Contested races: Three people are running for one one-year seat on the Selectboard: David Hunter, Jennie Joyce and Maureen O’Reilly.

Budgets and spending articles: The proposed budget is $1.29 million, which is up from $1.19 million last year. Another article asks whether voters will spend $263,000 for a 2023 Braun Ambulance, funding for which is primarily expected to come from grants and the town’s reserve fund. Other appropriations include $40,000 for the Fire Department Apparatus Capital Reserve Fund, $75,000 for the Highway Department Capital Reserve Fund and $60,000 for road paving.

When, where and how to vote: Grafton is scheduled to hold Town Meeting voting on March 14 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Grafton Fire/Ambulance Station.
