Gordon “Gordie” R. Meyette

Topsham, Vt. — Gordon “Gordie” R. Meyette of Topsham died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Born in Woodsville, N.H. on July 10, 1945, he was the son of Lewis & Edith (Plummer) Meyette of Newbury, Vt.

He attended schools in Newbury. Growing up he worked on the family farm and helped picked up milk at the local farms and delivered it to the creamy in Bradford, Vt. On January 15, 1966, he married Joyce Downing, together they built a home a Topsham in 1976. They had one son, Thomas.

In 1967, he started working for Pierson’s Garage as a mechanic and as a school bus driver. Many in the community recall “Gordie” as their bus driver while growing up. Gordon and Joyce also owned and operated Meyette’s Corner Store in East Corinth, which is now East Corinth General Store. Gordon finally turned to his passion of trucking full time for many years and did that until an unexpected early retirement due to an accident. Gordon enjoyed dirt track racing which he did at Bear Ridge Speedway, he also helped his son Tom race at both Bear Ridge and Canaan Speedway. Gordon also enjoyed watching NASCAR on TV, logging, riding on his gator through the woods, and trucking with his wife Joyce.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce Meyette of Topsham; his son, Thomas and wife, Jodi and granddaughter, Breanna Meyette all of Corinth, Vt.; one sister, Shirley Rogers of Randolph, Vt.; one uncle, Gilbert Meyette of Newbury; numerous brothers & sisters-in-laws, cousins and nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Lewis & Edith Meyette; one brother, Norman Meyette; several uncles and aunts.

Per Gordon’s request, there will be no calling hours or services. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, please do a kind gesture for another person who is in need. A special thank you to all the rescue workers, the staff at DHMC who cared for Gordon and his entire Dialysis team in St. Johnsbury.
