Forum, July 10: How about a Romney-Haley Republican ticket in 2020?

How about a Romney-Haley Republican ticket in 2020?

Kim Darroch, the British ambassador to the United States, says President Donald Trump is “inept” and that we could be “at the beginning of a downward spiral.” But this is not the start.

The Wall Street Journal has suggested that Trump’s former U.N. ambassador, Nikki Haley, replace Vice President Mike Pence to improve the Republican ticket in 2020. Maybe the ticket would be even stronger if they replaced Trump with Sen. Mitt Romney.

There is still time, but not much, and possibly not much time for America if Darroch is right when he claims that Trump is “uniquely dysfunctional” and his “economic policies could wreck the world trade system.” The evidence appears daily that he is.

We need an accurate count

The census is defined as an accounting of how many individuals are inhabiting a designated space. Federal money is doled out to the regions in most need by an accurate and honest accounting of those regions.

For what patriotic purpose would one propose to lie or deviate from an instrument that we rely upon to tell us, “How many are we?”

Declaration defines a ‘Tyrant’

Thank you for printing an excerpt from the text of the Declaration of Independence on July 4.

Especially pertinent today is the sentence: “A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” That might as well describe the current “supreme leader” of the United States.

Under a very powerful spell

Have the definitions of “traitor” and “treason” changed? Treason means giving aid and comfort to enemies and the betrayal of trust or confidence. A traitor is in violation of allegiance to one’s country or tries to overthrow the government.

The Republicans in office are traitors and have committed treason. The rednecks and the religious right are under a very powerful spell, which doesn’t exempt them from the guilt of betraying their country, too.

Much of the blame lies in the hands of the Democrats. It is time for the old who are running for office to bow out since it has been under their watch that the hate media has grown and grown. They allowed the Republicans in office to say and do anything they wanted — cheat, cry, divide, hate, betray — and the list goes on and on. These older Democrats have allowed them to get this far in destroying our Constitution and democracy.

It goes without saying that if the Democrats were doing what is happening now, the Republicans would already be holding treason trials.
