Support the Citizens Climate Lobby

There is some good news on the climate change front: The first ever bipartisan carbon fee and dividend legislation has been introduced in both the U.S. House and Senate. Citizens Climate Lobby has been working for 11 years to build bipartisan support for this idea, and it has finally shown results.

Carbon fee and dividend legislation places an annually increasing fee on all fossil fuels, and then distributes the money raised to all U.S. citizens equally so as to reduce the burden of the fee on lower and middle-income households. It uses the market-driven principle of raising prices on oil products to change behavior and promote the shift to clean, renewable energy, thereby incentivizing job growth in the green energy economy. This legislation has the goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 40 percent over the next 12 years and 90 percent by 2050, which is in line with the recommendations of the U.N. International Panel on Climate Change.

I am deeply afraid for our planet. For me, the scariest of the several very disturbing recent climate reports was the news that we have lost 95 percent of “old, multi-year ice” in the Arctic, which will never be replaced. Carbon fee and dividend legislation is the first effective step we can take to avert disastrous climate impacts. Economists and scientists agree that it will reduce carbon emissions fast. We need to make rapid, dramatic changes to end our reliance on fossil fuels if all plant and animal species on this planet are to have any hope at all.

Please let your representatives know that you support this legislation, which is sure to be reintroduced in this congressional session. And join the Upper Valley chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby, which is set to meet Saturday, at 12:30 p.m., at the Kilton Public Library in West Lebanon. Meat, Dairy and Climate Change

It’s an uncomfortable truth, one that many environmentalists don’t want to hear or acknowledge: Raising animals for human consumption is the largest single contributor to global warming — more than exhaust fumes from all transportation combined.

The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that direct emissions from meat production are about 18 percent of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions. Transport, by contrast, accounts for just 13 percent, according to the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Further, according to World Bank environmental advisers, when accounting for deforestation for grazing cattle and loss of carbon from soils, animal agriculture contributes up to 51 percent of the human-induced warming effect.

What can a responsible environmentalist do with this truth?

The answer: Stop eating animal “products” (all meat, including fish, eggs, dairy). True environmentalists who connect diet with its impact on the environment act accordingly and don’t eat animal-based foods. Given the science, and the fact that no one says a plant-based diet is unhealthy, there is no need to eat animal-based foods.

Moreover, eating a plant-based diet contributes to good health. Meat and dairy are linked to heart disease, diabetes, stroke and even cancer. The World Health Organization categorized processed meats as Group 1 carcinogens (along with asbestos and cigarettes) and all unprocessed meats a Group 2 carcinogens.

According to an American Journal of Clinical Nutrition report, plant-based vegan diets tend to lower body weights, lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol.

Only when all of us stop eating animals and their “products” can our dying planet heal.

Trump Is Weakening America

It is now clear that President Donald Trump is weakening our national defenses at an accelerating pace. What is the evidence for this assertion? The Russians are inches away from establishing an airbase in Venezuela, giving them the kind of threat capability that President John F. Kennedy resisted in Cuba. Russian President Vladimir Putin is bragging about two horrifying new weapons systems, both of them nuclear capable. Placed in Venezuela, they would threaten North American cities in a terrifying way. Trump is yanking American forces out of Syria, and away from our Kurdish allies, thereby strengthening Putin’s hand in the Middle East immeasurably, and demonstrating to all our other allies that we cannot be trusted. Trump is lying to American service personnel about their pay, and his foolish shutdown is causing the entire Coast Guard to go without pay. Trump is lying to everyone on important issues all the time, causing massive mistrust among our remaining allies of everything done in our name.

Is there any Republican elected official with the courage to push back against this? Or is this going to be the new Republican plan?

A Rogue Operation Is in Charge

The establishment mainstream media continues its 24/7/365 slander of President Donald Trump. Never has a sitting president been so obviously targeted for removal. People in high places badly want him gone. He’s been around those people for years. He knows where the bodies are buried, lots of bodies. As president, he has access to the incriminating documents, lots of documents. He poses a threat to them. He wasn’t supposed to be there. Hillary Clinton was. She’s one of them, and would have cooperated with the global agenda of the so-called elites. For that she would have been well-rewarded, maybe even given a Nobel peace prize.

For years, the court scribes of the corporate media whitewashed massive corruption. The Bushes, the Clintons and President Barack Obama presided over a crime wave: the attempted murder of the United States. So many people sit before their TVs being told what to think, oblivious to what happened to this country. The mainstream media is little more than a mouthpiece for the rogue operation that’s been running this country for decades. They were running it into the ground. No one can say with any certainty how this mess will all play out. But one thing’s for certain: The corrupt and broken-down house of cards will need a complete remodeling.
