RANDOLPH — An 82-year-old Florida man died and a female passenger was injured following a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 89 in Randolph on Thursday, Vermont State Police reported.

Robert Worthington, of Punta Gorda, Fla., was traveling in the northbound lane when his vehicle, a 2020 Hyundai Sonata, “veered off the roadway” and then “into several trees beyond the shoulder of the roadway,” state police said in a news release. EMS and fire rescue personnel in addition to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team by helicopter responded to the scene.

Police have determined that Worthington had suffered a “medical event” that led to vehicle leaving the highway, the news release said.

Deborah Worthington, 76, also of Punta Gorda, Fla., sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

The weather was clear and both of the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seatbelts, police said.
